Ed Livingston couldn't teach a dog how to lift his leg to pee. While I was there "studying" with him thelessons consisted of Bill Bell stories and possible alternate fingerings. His wall was covered with pictures of him with real professional tuba players who, when asked about him would admit that he was a charlatin. He graduated a tuba player who played with his bottom lip OUT OF THE MOUTHPIECE.He was a master politician and many of you will take offense to this, but he took a big dump on every good player who went there and jelously gaurded his job in the Peoria Symphony because most of the students could cut him.The players who went on to military band jobs did all of the work on their own and deserve all of the credit.Livingston got them drunk and laid, probably for the first time and they remain in awe of him.He ostricised the best pleyer there who is now a major and respected contributer to this forum and told us that we were getting the same or better fundamentals of playing that we would have gotten from Arnold Jacobs. He auditioned for a Canadian symphony, mabye Montreal, and came back saying that he had played Bydlo down a major third and they didn't know the difference and was offered the job but couldn't bear to leave his students. The head of the music department called one of his friends on the board and he hadn't advanced uot of the prelims. The legacy needs to start now with compent instruction .the truth
