I've played on conn-helleburgs for years and have never experienced pain. It does have a rather flat, sharp rim that takes getting use to.

I use a Bach Megatone 24AW with my 982Eb. The sound and response throughout the register with that mouthpiece worked well for me. The only reason I ended up trying it was because I picked up a brand new one for really cheap on that auction site. I did not have much to lose if I did not like it. To my suprise I liked it a lot. It could be that a regular Bach 24AW would work just as well. I'm not convinced that the megatone concept (extra mass) makes much, if any, difference. What mouthpiece do other 982 players use?

I also have a 186 and I have found that I can stick just about any MP in it and get good results. The 982 was MP sensitive. It's funny how different the two horns are.
