Chuck,
I must heartily disagree with you, about the "even scale" on the 2XJ tubas. When played as they were originally made and intended to be played, ie., with one tuning bit, with no dents or leaks in the instrument, they play amazingly well. I believe that they are intonationally superior to those old Holtons that many adore, and that is based upon having played both. Also, you'd be hard-pressed to find an Alex that plays as well in-tune as a Conn 25J.
