As was pointed out, helium is inert - I think you were thinking of Hydrogen - this might raise the fundamental a little more, and would really be exciting if you applied a match to the bell - flaming tubas (ala Hindenberg)

If you wanted to make the effect permanent, you could add a little tee to the leadpipe and hook up a helium (or hydrogen, acetylene, whatever) cannister so the horn was always full of gas but you didn't have to breathe it. Although, come to think of it our Great Danes are always full of gas and it doesn't seem to raise their fundamentals - and we have to breathe it to boot. Maybe it raises OUR fundamentals.
