Urban Legend! No, No, No, The 2XJ's don't weigh anything close to 52-60 lbs! There were plenty of other inaccuracies in their history of the 20J as well. Production on the 2XJ did not end in the 1950's as they state, it continued through the 1960s until Macmillan bought the company.

Curiously, none of my Conn bass brochures or catalogs from the 30's mention the weight of the 2XJ series.

My 1919 or 1920ish Conn catalog lists the weight of the New Wonder Model Orchestra Grand Bass (23" upright fixed bell, 4 Front action valves, large bore, 36J, 34J depending on whether BBb or CC) as 26 lbs.

My 1957 Conn catalog lists the weight of a 20J as 29 lbs 15 oz. No weight is given for the 24J (which is listed in the catalog), but an addition 4-5 lbs wouldn't surprise me.

The weight for the 20K in the same catalog is 30 lbs 12 oz, and I remember weighing my high school's 24K in at roughly 35 lbs.
