Often, if you stay too long, your employer starts to see you as a liability, not an asset. You've gotten too many raises over the years and they see that you make 20% more than the newbies. You start having more insurance claims due mainly to your advancing age. Your young boss hates having a geezer around, especially if you know more than he. If you argue against some new, ill-advised plan they think it's because you're old and can't adapt.

Your positive karma theory can be true,but it certainly has its limits.
