Nathan,
I don't know if this is what you are looking for but I use a rubber netting used for placing under small rugs on slippery floors. It keeps the rug from slipping out from under your feet when you walk on it. It has great traction and comes in a range of sizes. You can find them at most hardware stores for like $2.00. I just place the matt across my lap and then put the tuba on it bewteen my thighs and it takes very little leg effort to keep it there. The rubber netting keeps traction really well. You adjust the height of the tuba by closing or opening your knees. I use this because I have never liked using anything artifical when I play. I like keeping the horn close and apart of me. Putting it on a stand, for me anyway, seperates me from my playing. i'm just a purist I guess. Good luck in your search.

Dan
