Try the Warburton Arnold Jacobs model. It is a medium large helleberg style (V cup)mouthpiece. Tone and low range are great with it, but there is still enough punch to the sound. C cups don't seem to work very well on this horn. The mouthpiece I use on my 1290 is based on the cup and backbore of the AJ, but with a different rim and much heavier. You may not want the extra weight if you already have a hard time starting notes. I have had numerous blind A-B comparisons with my mpiece vs others and never found a better symphonic / band mouthpiece for the horn.

As an aside, I am still searching for the perfect solo / quintet mpiece, though. I can play the Gregson on mine, but it isn't as light as it should be. The C4 type is way too small to get a decent sound on this horn. I have been fooling around with a bored out Conn2, but think it may be a little too shallow for this big horn, even for recitals.
