For those High School tuba and euphonium players out there who plan on studying music in college, whether that be as a major or a minor, I would like to offer another school that does not get mentioned much on this bulletin board. Texas Christian University (TCU) provides a great undergraduate music experience for both tuba and euphonium players.

In the past couple weeks TCU students have placed well in several auditions. At the Air Force Audition last week, 2 TCU students (one current, one alumni), advanced to the final round of 6. TCU has advanced 3 students in the solo category and a quartet in the final round of the upcoming Regional Tuba/Euphonium Conference to be held at TCU May 15-18. And just this morning it was announced that 2 TCU students will be performing in the semi-final round of the Falcone festival.

TCU is a wonderful size, creating opportunities for many students to participate. The Wind Symphony and the Symphony Orchestra are both growing in quality, and look to be strong ensembles for many years to come. Because of the size of the school, all students get attention and the opportunity to play in an ensemble (we have 3 concert bands, and several chamber groups--including a large tuba ensemble).

Richard Murrow, the professor of Tuba and Euphonium at TCU, is an excellent tuba professor. He relates well to students of all levels. In addition to the students who have been successful in recent auditions, he has also had success with an oboe player and a clarinet player who have added the euphonium as a second instrument. Both of those players perform in the tuba ensemble.

If you are interested in TCU, come to the Conference in May. This would be a great opportunity to both hear great tuba and euphonium players from around the country--and to check out the TCU campus.

Hope to see you in May,
Zach
