I haven't sat down and "reviewed" scales this week, but I do use them for extended warmups now and then. I go about it in a sort of "modal" way. Pick a major or natural minor scale (or really whatever kind of scale you like). Start on the "fundamental" note up and down two (or three if you're feeling froggy) octaves. Proceed to the next note in the scale and do the same, eventually progressing all the way through the notes of the scale as a "start."

This procedure takes a while, but it sure gets you through all the registers of the horn fast. Sometimes I'll do this exercise starting on the top note and descending down into the depths and back up - shifting into half-speed in the lowest octave. Great for register shifting work!

I agree with your premise, though. It's a dumb idea to have a playing-level requirement before someone can post a thought or question. The inane dribble will surely be seen for what it is, anyway.
