My teacher and I use it to see if all notes that I try to play at the same dynamics are really the same or not. You will see that it takes a lot more effort to honk out those low notes at the real same dynamic as the higher ones. Great tool to check that. As well it is useful to see if you start notes at the same dynamic that you mean them to be. A little confusing to explain. If you were playing just a half note Bb on the second line of the Bass clef staff, it allows you to see if you "sneek" into the note because you are not absolutely confident how it is going to lie or not. Hope that's clear.
