You don't need to be trained in psy. med. to know performance anxiety when you go through it or when it's described to you. Performers experience this inhibition all the time and are (I believe) the closest people to experts who haven't spent their careers studying it. Besides, (according to the story) she suggested talking to a doctor about it (as you mentioned). So, she suggested that the student get appropriate counsel in order to remedy an inhibition on his performance (according to the story). It sounds like she was doing her job as a teacher by doing whatever she could to help the student acchieve a higher performance level.
