Having just gotten into grad school, I can tell you that if you want to be considered for scholarships and assistantships, you must have at least a 3.0. In MY case, I decided not to go to class my sophmore year, and so I ended up with a 2.9. Now, I was admitted to the school I wanted to be at, but it is under probation and I must do well my first quarter to be put on scholarship. It definately helped to have a teacher with some sort of reputation, but if you can play, that helps a lot. Also, GRE scores are pretty important.

Just do good in school, and you won't have to worry about all that crap.
