The ironic thing is that many of those college adminstrators who are making and enforcing these "policies" are also products of the 60's and 70's. How do you go from a sit-in in 1970 to extreme censorship of advice about seeing a doctor for performance anxiety in 2003? It is simple: That being censored in 1970 was something they believed to be true, and that that they are censoring now is speech they believe to be untrue (or evil, or--worst of all--litigious).
After all, these are the same folks who idolized hip philosophers, at least one of whom advocated (without being a doctor, heh, heh) the introduction of LSD into the water supply. When excoriated by "the establishment" at the time, the subject of academic freedom and free speech echoed widely in the resulting chorus.
