A friend of mine that has been very successful at taking auditions puts himself through several dry run "mock" auditions by playing the repertoire list for his friends, teachers, and collegues. You might try this route for experience.

Many of the posts in response to your question have addresed whether you "should" audition, rather than whether you "can." I tend to agree with the line of thinking that says one should only go if you plan try and win the job. If you don't think you can win the audition, you are taking a little away from the experience for everyone else. Plus, if you don't think you can win, you probably won't play your best, and then are defeating your original purpose.

However, if you really believe that you are qualified for the job and have a realistic chance to win the audition, by all means, you should do everything possible to go and play. These jobs are all too rare to miss an opportunity.
