Extensive research has proven that standing tubas on the ceiling is by far the best way to prevent people from stepping on the bell. And if you have the heavyweight spit valve adapters, you can reach up and drain the crankcase and do a complete oil change while standing in an ergonomically correct position.

The hard part used to be to get it down without damage to either bell or ceiling, but the new tuba glue releases easily. If the tuba glue fails to release for some reason, a sustained fff pedal Bb will usually do the trick as long as you sustain it for at least three minutes.
