Hi Steve,

The 181 feels and sounds very good below the staff. I've played a number of rotary F's and feel the the 181 is as good or better than most. I haven't played an F tuba with a better "C" than the Yamahas. I personally don't have a problem learning to adjust to the different feel of a rotary F, yes, it takes a while to get used to but I think is is well worth the effort(for me)sound wise. It really depends on the sound you are looking for. There are compromises to think of when deciding on an F tuba. Maybe someday there will be the perfect F tuba for all according to their tasts, rotary and piston in a variety of sizes. Maybe that tuba exists now?
