I told our Youth Symphony director (as a Board member [me], and in front of ALL of the parents - rather than just in front of the Board) that the idea of taking a bunch of children of parents who THEMSELVES could not possibly afford to go, that a trip to ITALY was the MOST RIDICULOUS trip that ANYONE could possibly propose. Further, I pointed out, who in ITALY is eagerly waiting to hear the musical interpretations of the XXXXXXX Youth Symphony?
Most kids went. Parents suffered financial problems. My kid and about twenty others did not go. Needless to say, I resigned from the Board.
