Chuck and I have done a bit of back-channel talking about the sizes and shapes of the bows and bell, and in so doing have determined that a Miraphone 186 bell will fit into the bottom-bow ferrule if a few inches of narrow end are trimmed off. The resulting bell stack would be the same length as the YM bell, but it would have a faster taper to a bigger throat. The newer, wider Miraphone bell seems the proper place to start, and maybe even a 191 bell would fit.

It's fun to think about, but I doubt I'll have the courage to try it.

A true York bell with a faster taper to a wider throat would be dandy, but you'd have to do the bottom bow, too (as you have done), because the ferrule on the YM is too wide for a real York 4/4 bell. The 4/4 York bells have about the same bell flare as the YM, but so the faster taper to the throat really means a smaller narrow end.
