I'm not an acoustician, but my understanding is that tuning to 445 lends a brilliance to an orchestra, due to a different spectrum of resulting overtones. If the Vienna Philharmonic tuned to 440, or even 442, they would no longer sound like the Vienna Phil, but would have to fill the stage of their hall with plexiglass shields because they would have to play much, much louder to achieve that brilliance.
