Hi Marty,
What does that mean? Someone is flattering (thanks). One of our preferred ways to come up with a CC tuba is to use the bell and bottom bow of an old Monster Eb. That 'heirloom sound' mostly comes from those components. Now ad new branches, valves, slides, and whatever other pieces to make a vintage sounding horn with reliable modern parts. My little York CC started life as a 3 valve, top action clunker sitting in a store front window. Fixed up as a 3 valve Eb, it would bring maybe $500 on E-bay. It sounds and plays like an original York CC that I enjoy playing and could resale for thousands.
An original BBb is cut, but then the branches are retapered and overhauled. Build up a new valve section, make a leadpipe, and tweek the horn to match the player, and you have a conversion.
Please check out my other post to the question about why convert tubas.
Matt
