One of the principal advantages is that the shank of the mouthpiece can be made to fit whatever size of Alexander receiver you have. Doug even made one to fit a (measured) half-inch receiver! You can't imagine the difference a fitted shank makes for those tubas.
I'm using his next to largest size with a 130mm rim.
These are custom mouthpieces made in three parts and are pricey if you are used to stock mouthpiece prices. Call Doug at 301-871-3535.
