A friend of mine recently got an interesting flight case made for his horn. This thing is huge but the protection it offers is amazing. Inside, the case has been designed to hold the instrument, whilst in its gig bag. There is a least 6 inchs of foam all around it and the outer shell of the case is made out of 20mm marine ply with big metal corner guards and braces. It also has huge detachable castors (so careless airling packers don't break them off) to make wheeling it around easy.

It mighten be the easiest thing to lug around but if you're serious about protecting your tuba, it's the only way to go! As soon as I come up with the cash.....I'll have one too!
