The more compact the instrument, the more short-radius corners are required. This results in more resistance to the air stream. Bell size affects low-register playing more than any other factor in my opinion. If you want easier playing along with better response, look for a large open wrap with a large bell. Everything comes at a price, small size cannot be had without some tradeoffs.
