The Willson 5/4 horn is the same as what used to be the Kurath CC (Willy Kurath). I suppose Willy works for Willson/DEG now...
Anyway! Mike Dunn at the Univ. of Alabama has one of the old Kurath models, and I have spent many hours on it the last few years. I really like playing the horn, it's unique in that it has a big sound with alot of projection yet maintains a heck of alot of clarity. The horn is really tall and open-wrapped out the wazoo-they didn't conserve any air space when they designed this horn! Articulation is incredibly easy for a big instrument, and the low register can really pack a punch with some core to it. With all the fuss over Yorkbrunners and MW 2165's, I think this horn has been overlooked! :^)
Best Wishes,
