This is a question you must solve yourself. You need to play quite a few different models or horns etc. etc. I have seen people such as my high school teacher play an old Boosey and Hawkes Eb tuba very succesfully in an array of fields. It had a large enough sound to project through an orchestra yet nimble enough to be homey in a quintet setting. Then you have people like Dan Perantoni and German orchestral tubas who tend to favor the F tuba. If I were you and thinking about purchasing a higher pitched tuba I would just go to a place like Custom Music in Detroit or Brasswind in South Bend or Dillon Music in Woodbridge, NJ and try every single horn. And just find the one you like. It may sound like I'm beating around the bush but in actuality the only correct horn for you is the one that makes you happy.
