Actually, that was the players' last proposal to management, which was rejected. The orchestra has been back to work for a couple of weeks after reluctantly agreeing to a five year contract. The salary issue was basically agreed to, but there were five other contract items (including the non-renewal committee)that the players wanted to continue to negotiate after returning to work. Management told them, "Take this last offer as it stands, or we begin dismantling the orchestra TOMORROW." So, out of deference to the players who were too old to look for another job, and the players who would be unable to get new health insurance due to pre-existing conditions, the orchestra voted to accept management's ultimatum.
