I knew a high school kid a few years ago who played baritone horn left-handed. He swapped me a front-action horn for a top-action one that I had and was very pleased. I believe most three-valved top-action tubas can be played left-handed almost as easily as right-handed, and they are usually less expensive than the front-action models. Customizing is always an option, but one should play for a few years first to become familiar with the territory.
Does anybody remember Jimmy Burke? He did fine playing the cornet left handed.
-And don't forget Wayne Wright, who plays a beautiful old left-handed guitar. When people ask him about it he says it's done with mirrors.
