Edwards is cheap junk, but incredibly large #'s of trombonists have convinced themselves that these are "wonderful" instruments (sorta like a hack like Liberace being viewed as a "wonderful" pianist in the '50's and '60's, IMO).

Dealers CAN sell Edwards trombones, but only if they are stamped "Getzen Custom" on the bell instead of "Edwards". The "Getzen Custom" prices are lower, and almost as many desired (??) options are available.

Again, these are poorly-manufactured and poorly-assembled instruments at very high prices and pushed with a lot of hype. The main thing that originally attracted trombonists to them was the fact that they are equipped with Thayer valves. Now that Bach offers factory-installed Thayer valves, the Edwards series has nothing to offer, except typical Getzen junk workmanship.

If your friend actually prefers the lunky and heavy sound of Edwards trombones, better to buy a Bach with a factory or well-installed aftermarket Thayer valve and install an Edwards bell on it. That way, the moving parts of the instrument will end up being decent.
