If you are studying privately with an experienced tuba player, or are in a city where one resides, I would suggest contacting him/her and asking for their opinion. There are too many questions to ask and answer to handle easily in this forum, and a pro might spot a seemingly small issue with the horn in question that might turn into a big problem down the road.

Since you have never experienced the process of buying a tuba, I believe that the advice of a pro, or at least someone who has bought a horn, is almost an imperative. Even if you have to pay the going lesson rate for his/her time, it's a whole lot cheaper than making a $4800 mistake.

Remember: not everyone in the tuba-selling world is as honest as the contributers to this list all seem to be. The advice of a local pro could spare you the pain of realizing that you paid a lot of money for a horn that would be better suited to a planter on the wall of a TGI Friday's. (Not that this mirafone is such a horn)
