A vented valve simply allows air pressure to escape from the valve tubing when pulled or pushed. Should not have any effect when the valve is in play. On unvented horns, when you pull a slide you create a vacume which will cause a 'pop' when the valve is depressed. Vented valves will allow the pressure to escape, allowing the player the ability pull slides without the percussive effect. I do not see how it would have a positive effect for the original poster as to legato playing.
