About a year ago I had a very similar problem playing a Besson tuba using a bach 24AW. For me the answer (and it genuinely did fix almost completely both the overblowing and attack problems) was a larger mouthpiece with a sharper rim. I chose a Dennis Wick #1. I am not saying this is right for everyone, and I am certainly not saying that more equipment is a substitute for a good practice session, but I couldn't believe the difference in the sound after I changed, and I now use the same mouthepiece on any tuba in any key for any piece. I guess I just got lucky and found "the one that works for me".

James.
