I really like my Holton, but have found that playing a 6/4 horn is a skill in and of itself. In the testing period, I never did feel confortable with the 'feel' of the horn (this is a factory CC, with a dependant 5th added), so I had the local symphony player give it a go. Now, he generally plays a yorkbruner or an even larger BBb martin, putting him in a better position to judge the horn. One comment was it was so much more open in the low register than the yorkbrunner, likely due to the the way the 5th was added. Now, several months later, I am very happy with the horn, and am in a position to make comparisons. If you are familiar with BATs, then by all means try as many as you can get hold of (different strokes)for yourself. If not, then get some assistance from someone you trust for help in a least getting a good horn.
