One thing I would like to add is that James' statement has one point you might want to investigate on your own. The cup diameter does not always have an effect on your range. If i cannot get enough lip in the mouthpiece to control the vibrations the way I want to then both ranges (high & low) will suffer. Also for some people a mouthpiece that is too large will not give their chops something to buzz against, which would be detrimental to the lower range. I agree with all the other points James has given as advice, but I feel that the cup diameter is how we fit a mouthpiece to what genetics has given us. Just remember that Arturo Sandoval can cream on a 3C which in the trumpet world is no small mouthpiece.
