I play a 5 valve BBb and if you took a poll i think you would find out that there are alot of players playing 5 valve BBb tubas and not as rare as you think.
If you don't like playing in the lower register, then it is probably a poor choice for you.
I love pedal tones and I would not own one without it.
Also I have found that 5% valve versions of the 4 valve play better and with a better sound and the notes lock better and the lower register speaks more freely on the ones I have played.
