Several reasons come to mind in this regard: Availability of recordings for one(Canadian Brass, Empire Brass, Sam Pilafian, Roger Bobo, Arnold Jacobs, Pat Sheridan, among the most obvious which come to mind of the top of my head). The access to trained private teachers (many of who studied with the "masters"), as well as the greatly improved selection of horns for young players. My hat is off to all the young players who make it to the top end of their chosen instrument. While they have the bennifit of all the above, they also have the added distractions of hundreds of chanels on TV, video games, computers and the internet. An instrument which takes years of study to master is a difficult sell against a new playstation 2, which will provide a kid with instant rewards!
