In British brass bands a baritone and euphonium are different instruments which play different parts. There is also a tenor horn, which to confuse things would be called an alto horn in this country. If we would consistently call a large, conical bore, Bb instrument a euphonium, and a smaller, cylindrical bore Bb instrument a baritone, like in England, it seems to me that it wouldn't be confusing. Using that definition, the Conn bell front "baritone horn" and similar instruments are euphoniums. The word euphonium has certainly been around a lot longer than T.U.B.A. After all, we had double bell EUPHONIUMS in the 19th century.

As for doubling, if one intends to teach tuba, it certainly expands your potential student base to also be able to teach euphonium, and the concepts aren't that different. If one can play and teach tuba, you chould be able to pick up euphonium and teach it.
