This question has come up on this BBS before.

I, and at least a few others on this BBS have said that you can't go wrong with the Humes & Berg Aluminum Symphonic straight mute. Even though the Symphonic model is for a tuba w/a large bell throat, it seems to work great on any tuba I've ever stuck it into, from a Huge BBb Cerveny Kaiser to a little Conn 3J.

Make absolutely SURE you get the aluminum one. The stonelined ones for tuba by H&B absolutely reek. You might as well put a 3-foot Dunce hat filled with Hormel Chilli in your bell. (If anyone has actually tried this method, please post your results!)
