As I remember, Maj. Mike Pyatt, Commander at the time, liked the directional sound of the Sousaphone better on the parade field. I think we may have done a parade with them and the same issue came up. If Lee is lurking, he could tell you more about the instrument. I honestly wish I could remember how they played. The only thing I recall is that they were somewhat uncomfortable due to the leadpipe/bits set-up.
