Hi.

I just got a 6/4 Hirsbrunner CC (i.e. one of the newer "Yorkbrunners") a few weeks ago. It's a lovely horn, and I'm very pleased with it. The pitch and response are very good.

Having said that, I'm still trying various mouthpieces on it to try and see which combination seems to work best for me. I'm interested in not only pitch and response, but in consistency over the compass of the instrument, as well as the ability to color the sound.

I would like to ask those of you who have 5/4 and 6/4 tubas (especially Hirsbrunners and Nirschls) which mouthpieces you prefer for your instruments. Please elaborate on what you like/dislike about a particular mouthpiece if you have time.

In the interests of keeping the thread managable and to the point, could I ask that people only post if they actually have first hand experience playing a large tuba?

Thanks,

Jeff
