Personally speaking, I like the pacing of the work much better on the DG recording with Pierre Boulez conducting the Vienna Phil. The Giulini one is very majestic but the coda to the finale, the work's final peroration, falls just a hair *flat* in comparison. No problem in hearing the tubaist on the Boulez one either. It also fits on one disc, so it'll cost you about half the price of some others. A real *sleeper* budget priced B8 is the Maazel/Berlin Phil. one on EMI's Seraphim series - costs about 7.99.

The VPO has also made excellent recordings of the Bruckner 8th with both Karajan and Haitink (never made available in the U.S.) as well. Still, I prefere Boulez's pacing of the work.
