The closest German rotary equivalent to the euphonium, the "Bariton", always has a longer leadpipe than have euphs. At least euphs in their modern 4 valve comp incarnations.

I am not shure, that any sure lesson can be drawn from the quote from Gerhard Meinl.

Comparing some Besson Eb tuba models might suggest, that a leadpipe with a longer expansion will give a brighter sound than would the leadpipe with the shorter expansion.
