Jay, see if you can borrow a good tone generator, or make a tone in Cool Edit that is a straight 58-Hz sine wave (low Bb). I think you'll be amazed by what you hear. Nobody would want that for their tuba sound. When I did that, and finally heard what the fundamental sounded like without the overtones, I realized that I had been thinking wrongly about sound for years.
