I have a JVC and a Sony MD, and both are compatible for transfer of MP3's from my computer to minidisc, and vice versa. I have uploaded live recordings of myself and other things into my computer through the available connections on the MD, it's just that the trick is finding software that will handle that type of file and allow editing and saving as MP3 or whatever sound file you choose. (It can also be done VERY primitively through the old sound recorder in the Windows Accessories --> Entertainment--> sound recorder.) The sound recorder is an easy way to get it started... I've done it through Cakewalk on my laptop, and think it can probably done in Digital Performer using the audio tracks. The files just take a ton of space. I hook my MD through the microphone port using an audio cable, and it works wonderfully.
I'm not sure this made much sense, hope something is helpful.
