Think of it this way: such people will never appreciate their instrument as much as you will yours because you had to work and give up your free time to pay for your own tuba. You'll have the satisfaction and confidence of knowing you bought and paid for your own horn. You'll never take that horn for granted and maybe you'll practice just that much harder, knowing you don't want to have worked and made all those sacrifices for nothing.
The greatest gift a parent can give a child is self sufficiency and capability. Treasure the fact that when the next thing you want to buy comes along, you won't have to depend on anybody else to get it for you.
