  1. A trigger is another name for a valve and a halftone is another name for a half step in pitch. Thus, a valve which lowers the pitch a half step such as the second valve on valved brass instruments.
  2. The sixth valve lowers the pitch of the horn when depressed just like any other valve. Some people like to have the extra valve for more possible valve combinations. This could be useful for alternate fingerings, which are used for better intonation or easier finger combinations in technical passages.
  3. Use a fingering chart for a 4 or 5 valved tuba and work out the other possibilities.
