Marzan horns were not built by Wilson.

I'm confused then, by two catalog reproductions that I have--one from DEG and another from Willson (circa 1972). Both advertise Marzan model instruments.

Does your statement refer to the "regular" crowd at Willi Kurath's operation not building these instruments, but rather Fred Marzan and his group but still using the Kurath facilities?

The wording in the Willson catalog is especially confusing. The same instruments are given both Marzan and Willson names. For example, a description reads:

The WILLSON and MARZAN SPECIAL SERIES BB tuba has a very large bore and its even larger structure makes it available for use in larger orchestras.

(BTW, the description makes it sound like this tuba was a 6/4 monster. In fact, the bell was a mere 17 3/4" and the bore was a very modest 0.670")

AFAIK, the only other instruments bearing the "Marzan" name were made at Böhm & Meinl in Geretsried.
