I agree completely. I especially can't understand why the 3+1 configuration that most compensating euphs have, has become the standard. Other than in British Brass Bands, you don't see very many people using compensating tubas, or 3+1 instruments. You certainly don't see it used by the vast majority of pro tuba players. If compensation was that much better one would think that everyone would have rushed to it.
I am primarily an (amateur) tuba player, but I have yet to play a Besson euphonium that I thought sounded significantly better than my Yamaha 321, or had better intonation.
