Actually, I would strongly agree that low register work improves upon the high register, mostly from personal experience. Every time I do lip slurs that include the Contra register, my comfortable range widens on both the high end and the low end.
At any cost, the lip slur is a vital tool (that I should use more often!) that will help any part of your range, as long as they are smooth, clean, and relaxed. Hope I could help! =^)
