Although no technician wants to see a dented tuba (a crushed saxophone, now that different :-), consider it "job security." Although I've seen plenty of horns mishandled by guys with gig bags, there are a number of people who take the extra care needed to ensure that their horn is protected. Personally, I think the backpack models afford the most protection. How often do you back into a wall?
What really pisses me off are people who toe their infant children around in the car without them being in a carseat. Now, there's a worthy crusade!
